Will Hampton Roads have an active winter season?
Jan 09, 2025
NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — This active week of winter weather Hampton Roads is seeing has many people wondering how winter will pan out in the coming weeks and months.
10 On Your Side Meteorologist Steve Fundaro would describe winter in our area as up and down due to active weather patterns.
For instance, if a system lines up correctly, it gives us a better chance at seeing some winter precipitation like we've seen this week. That may last another week or two and then things could level off.
He said what's helpful about this next round of winter weather is the time that it is expected to arrive.
"Coming in on a Friday night [and] moving out on a Saturday morning, hopefully most of us can be able to sleep in on a Saturday morning, maybe wake up a little early with a cup of coffee and enjoy some of the snowfall," Fundaro said.
But still, take caution.
"Have a snow shovel ready, have the ice ready because every now and again, it'll be a surprise here and you need to prepare," Norfolk resident Jake Price said.
