Supreme Court rules on moving of New Orleans homeless encampments

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Ahead of big events, the Louisiana State Supreme Court has ruled that state police can move the homeless out of their encampments in New Orleans.
It's a controversial topic, with officials with the New Orleans City Council saying the "sweeps" disrupt the city's plan to move the homeless into permanent housing.

The state supreme court, however, ruled that the state is acting in the interest of public health and safety.
No word has yet been released on a possible appeal.
