BROWNSBURG, Ind. -- A man is facing seven felony charges, including battery against a public safety officer, for his alleged role in several thefts in Brownsburg. According to court documents obtained by FOX59/CBS4, 35-year-old Jeffrey Bailey is facing the following preliminary charges: Unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felony (level 4 felony) Battery with bodily injury to a public safety officer (level 5 felony) Theft (level 5 felony) Two counts of resisting law enforcement (level 6 felony) Resisting law enforcement (Class A misdemeanor) Unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle (Class B misdemeanor) The investigation into Bailey began on Jan. 5 when officers were told by a caller that they observed a man, who was later identified as Bailey, walking suspiciously near Eaker Court to the south of County Road 800 N. Court documents state the caller reported seeing Bailey walking between homes in the area while appearing to be looking over his shoulder and anticipating that somebody was following him. Responding officers later learned that Bailey was possibly tied to a stolen vehicle that had been recovered on County Road 650 E. and County Road 800 N. in Brownsburg after sliding off the road. Court documents said Bailey had allegedly fled the scene before officers could arrive. The responding units searched the area extensively but could not locate any suspect. A deputy with the Hendricks County Sheriff's Office was then called to the area of Fountain Curve Road in response to the "suspicious" individual. While the officers were en route, they received additional information from the caller, who reported observing Bailey allegedly try and break into a back gate of their residence. The caller reportedly told responding deputies that the suspect was wearing a multi-colored jacket and a light-colored hat with a black mask covering a portion of his mouth. The caller also advised that they believed the suspect was armed and they had managed to record a video of the suspect which they provided to police. Bailey had also been previously spotted in the area of Torrey Pine at Laurel Valley. A short time later, another officer was dispatched to near Redsunset Drive in response to reports of a potential theft. The caller had also managed to capture a video of the suspect in this instance. While responding to Redsunset Drive, one of the callers told the HCSO Bailey had reportedly gained entry into their white Lexus SUV. The caller also showed police a video of the suspect, which appeared to match the other descriptions police received during their investigation. The HCSO compared the two videos and determined that Bailey was the alleged suspect in both instances, court documents said. As one of the responding officers was heading eastbound toward the neighborhood of Summer Ridge, law enforcement was alerted to the suspect's possible presence in the 1500 block of Midnight Pass. Officers with the Brownsburg Police Department were called to the area after receiving reports that a man police believed to be Bailey had broken into several vehicles in the area. One of the callers told police they watched as Bailey reportedly tried to unlock their locked truck door. Another resident in the area reported observing their vehicle door being left open. When the resident entered the vehicle, they saw personal items scattered around and an open glove box. As more officers arrived in the area, court documents show that one of them ordered Bailey to stop walking. Bailey then began running as one officer followed him between two houses in the area. The pursuit didn't last long, as another officer reportedly tackled Bailey and managed to grab ahold of his chest. The two officers then began delivering verbal commands for Bailey to stop resisting. Court documents allege that Bailey did not comply. One of the officers reportedly struck Bailey's right ribcage during the scuffle but this "had no effect", court documents said. At one point during the altercation, one of the officers advised that Bailey had a gun and managed to prevent Bailey from accessing it. Officers continued instructing Bailey to stop resisting, stating that if he did not stop reaching for his gun he would "be made to go unconscious." Bailey allegedly ignored these instructions again and one of the officers proceeded to put him in a chokehold that resulted in Bailey being unconscious for around 10 seconds, according to court documents. At this point, the officers managed to place Bailey's left hand into handcuffs. Court documents show that Bailey soon regained consciousness and began resisting again. The fight between Bailey and the officers resumed, with one officer attempting to place the handcuff on the suspect's right wrist. This continued for a short time until police finally gained control of Bailey's right hand and arrested him. Following the scuffle, one of the officers noticed that they were struggling to move their fingers and noticed swelling on their right hand. The officer reported that they could not close their right hand properly. That officer also sustained bruising to their forehead during the incident, court documents said. Medics arrived on the scene and gave the officer medical clearance. As police left the scene, they were informed of another possible burglary on Walnut Way that may have allegedly involved Bailey. Court documents said the homeowner told police that they observed footprints near their garage. As they approached the garage — which was open due to an ongoing maintenance issue — the homeowner noticed that their motorcycle had been moved. The homeowner told police that they believed the suspect had attempted to steal their motorcycle before they realized that it was not operational. The victim also reported seeing the doors on their truck partially open as they learned their gun, two-speed loaders, around $100 in cash and multiple Crew carwash cards were missing from the center console. All of these items except for the money were found on Bailey after police apprehended him, court documents said. Police recovered a Ruger 38 pistol after apprehending Bailey, according to court documents. At this time, Bailey allegedly began to resist yet again while being checked out by medics. Other police arrived and helped apprehend Bailey before he was transported to the Hendricks County Jail. Per online court records, Bailey is set to appear in an initial hearing on Jan. 10 at noon in Hendricks Circuit Court.
