The shelter has also placed 51 dogs and 85 cats on the waitlist. Oahu SPCA officials said the admittance of these animals has placed an unprecedented strain on resources and capacity and are asking community members to consider fostering an animal before they are left without options. A paw-sitive start: 25 pets turned in to HHS post New Year’s, lowest in 3 years Foster homes are needed within the next eight days to help place as many animals as possible to avoid further overcrowding. As of now, more than 300 animals are at risk of being left in limbo. "We are at a crisis point where every available foster home can make a life-saving difference for these animals. We need our community's help now more than ever to ensure we can continue providing a safe space for these pets until they can find their forever homes," said Adrian Preciado, Oahu SPCA Executive Director. According to OSPCA Adoptions Manager Taylor Berberich, some kennels are housing more than one animal, leaving the shelter very overwhelmed. "We have all the things right now just to try and accommodate all these animals coming in because the outcome is them being released outside, them being euthanized, just stuff we don't want to see," Berberich added. Animals range from puppies and kittens to adult dogs and senior cats. Households who are willing to foster will be provided with supplies including food, medical care and guidance.
