FREDERICKSBURG, Texas (KXAN) -- Thursday brought near-freezing temperatures and cold rain to the Hill Country. Most of the day was chilly and soggy, and crews started to observe some icing - particularly in the northwest pocket of the Hill Country - in the afternoon. "The rain’s getting a little sharper, that’s when you know it’s getting a little bit colder," said Alexis Archer, who works at 290 Locale Winery and Pizzeria in Johnson City. KXAN spoke with her on our way from Burnet to Fredericksburg. Lee Casbeer, a mural and portrait artist who works across the street, got all the bulk of his driving out of the way before storms came in. "I had to make a run into San Antonio but I decided to take an early start so I could beat most of the moisture," he said. In Burnet, officials said a rain-related crash happened Thursday afternoon, where a car drove into a telephone pole. The driver is expected to be okay. As temperatures hovered near freezing, viewers started to send in photos, like the one below, of trees and other plants icing over. A tree iced over in Burnet. (Stephanie Beardsley) The weather prompted Fredericksburg to delay the opening of city buildings Friday until 10 a.m. That includes the following buildings: City Hall, Animal Shelter, Gillespie County Health Division, Law Enforcement Offices, Municipal Court, Recycling Center and Sanitary Landfill. "Emergency personnel and public works crews will continue to be available throughout the duration of the weather event to respond as needs arise," the city said in a statement. "Citizens are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel and to use caution when driving, especially on bridges and overpasses."
