ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The new year means taxes, and that can require preparation. For some help, Monroe County residents have the option to use a free service available at the Central Library in the City. Creating Assets, Savings, and Hoppe — or CASH — is a free tax-filing system for eligible taxpayers. The system is an initiative by the Empire Justice Center, which is run by organizations looking to help address financial needs and concerns. New York expands free tax filing program Yversha Roman is the director of strategic partnerships for the center. She said many don't seek assistance and file their taxes on their own. But if you make a mistake, it's more difficult to fix it, which is why seeking help is wise. If you want help filling, but still prefer doing things on your own, you can use a self-service computer with guidance. Roman says some people think they won't be eligible, even if they are. Canandaigua reports error on 2025 Ontario County tax bills "There are opportunities for individuals making under $100k a year, which is a big group of our community. Most people can come in and receive some sort of support when filing their taxes," Roman said. "We will let you know what you qualify for, what you don't qualify for, and if you need to seek other resources we will help guide you in that direction as well." Residents can make an appointment on Monday by calling (585)-900-1004, online, or on the fourth floor of the Central Library. Filing assistance starts on January 28.
