Weather forecast: Milder weather on the way but don't call it a thaw

ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) - Hey, was that a little sunshine I saw this evening?

Cold and windy conditions are both set to backoff over the next 24 hours. As winds relent and lose their northerly component, lake flakes and lake clouds will continue to diminish overnight. That partial clearing will keep the cold alive, however, with temperatures back into the teens. But without the wind, wind chills won't be quite as rough.
Partial sunshine lingers Friday morning before clouds quickly thicken back up later in the day. We'll climb into the upper 20s by afternoon (an improvement) before we turn our attention to scattered light snow that will overspread the area after dark and into Friday night. This northern stream system is much weaker than its southern counterpart, so I don't expect more than an inch of snow out of this by early Saturday.
The weekend then quiets back down with both Saturday and Sunday taking a run at the freezing mark. We'll run that near freezing forecast through Monday before punting back to colder air again for the remainder of next week.
