A 54-year-old man who barricaded himself inside a Chaffee County home on Wednesday was shot by deputies and arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and attempted murder, state investigators said.
Chaffee County sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic violence call at a rural home west of Salida around 4 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
When deputies arrived, the woman who called 911 had already left the house and was inside a neighbor’s home, CBI officials said. The suspect refused to leave the house and barricaded himself inside.
Deputies tried to negotiate with the suspect, but he shot at them from an upstairs window, investigators said. Three Chaffee County sheriff’s deputies and a Salida police officer returned fire.
