(KRON) -- Destructive wildfires fueled by ferocious Santa Ana winds in the Los Angeles area have killed five victims, torn through communities between the Pacific Coast and Pasadena, destroyed thousands of homes, and caused over 180,000 people to evacuate.
The two biggest fires are the Palisades Fire, which is burning out of control in Pacific Palisades and along Pacific Coast Highway toward Malibu, and the Eaton Fire, where neighborhoods near Pasadena were reduced to ashes. Residents in Hollywood and the Hollywood Hills were also forced to flee from their homes due to the Sunset Fire.

The fast-moving wildfires ignited on Tuesday. Flames were fanned by ruthless winds gusting more than 70 mph. The Palisades Fire scorched 17,234 acres while the Eaton Fire ripped through 10,600 acres, according to Cal Fire. As of Thursday afternoon, the fires were still raging with zero percent containment.
Five people have been confirmed to have died as a result of the fires. The official death toll is expected to rise.
Los Angeles City Fire Chief Kristin Crowley said during a news conference Thursday, "The Palisades Fire is one of the most destructive natural disasters in the history of Los Angeles.”
