WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita road crews continue to try to clear the snow off the streets, but some snow- and ice-covered areas are taking longer than expected. The city is also preparing for new snowfall, which is expected Thursday afternoon and evening. "The layer of ice preceding the snow and low temperatures have not made conditions easy to abate, but crews continue to treat roads and to retreat as necessary," Mayor Lily Wu said. "Yesterday, they also began preparing for snow forecasted for today." The blizzard over the weekend came after icy rain and sleet coated the streets with thick ice. That is not expected to happen with the new snowfall. Storm Track 3 Forecast: Another round of snow Thursday, cold this weekend The mayor said the road crews have been working 12-hour shifts since last Thursday. "Despite low temperatures impacting the effectiveness of treatment, crews have diligently worked nonstop to make our streets as safe as possible and are ready for any additional snow that we may receive today," she said. "Please continue to use care as you get out, especially on elevated roadways and on bridges." The crews will continue to work rotating 12-hour shifts throughout while there is snow. The city does have a request for citizens. "Please be mindful of our mail carriers and delivery workers," Megan Lovely, the city spokesperson, said. "Make sure you're scraping your sidewalks and making it safe for them." The city has a map where you can track the snow plows. Click here to view it. The names on the map are the names of the snow plows, such as Snowbi One Kenobi, Edgar Allen Snow, and Wolfgang Amadeus Snowzart.
