MONTAGUE, Mass. (WWLP) - A lieutenant in the Montague Police Department has been placed on administrative leave due to an investigation being done by the department. Montague Town Administrator Walter Ramsey confirmed with 22News that Lt. Christopher Bonnett had been placed on administrative leave and could not tell us why as an internal investigation is in place. Former acting Montague police chief due in court This is the second time Bonnett has been placed on administrative leave. In 2017, Bonnett was under the role of acting police chief for the town when Chief Charles Dodge was placed on paid administrative leave. Dodge was at the center of a state investigation beginning in 2016 and was allowed to return. In November 2017, the Montague Selectboard told 22News they decided, after completing an investigation into the handling of the town’s medical drug disposal box program, Dodge be placed on paid administrative leave. Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan sent a letter stating that the Montague Police Department would not be allowed to participate in the anti-crime task force if they didn’t change their police chief. Dodge officially resigned from the department after five and a half years as chief in March 2018. In June 2018, acting Police Chief Bonnett was placed on paid administrative leave after being arrested on assault and battery charges. Staff Sergeant Chris Williams took over as acting chief while the investigation into Bonnet was underway. Bonnett was re-instated to the role of lieutenant in November 2018 following administrative leave. Williams is listed as the official chief of police on the department's website.
