SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Police are working to identify a body recovered from the Savannah River Sunday morning. The Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) said the remains were found in the river near Ursula Island around 10:25 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5. John Doe tattoo (provided by the Chatham County Police Department) The unidentified Caucasian male appears to have been between 60 and 70 years old, weighed 165 lbs. and was 5’8” tall, CCPD said. The man had a long, white beard and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt and a black beanie on his head. CCPD also shared a photo of a distinctive tattoo he had on his left bicep. Savannah PD asking for help identifying a person of interest Officials said the man's cause of death and whether any foul play may be involved will be determined by autopsy results, which are pending.
