A winter storm will continue to bring snow to parts of New Mexico through Thursday night. Bitterly cold air will move in Friday morning. Widespread snow has been falling across New Mexico Thursday, bringing accumulating snow and icy roads to parts of the state. This evening, snow continues to fall in central, southern, and eastern New Mexico. Gusty winds have developed today in eastern New Mexico, with the strongest gusts in northeastern parts of the state where blowing snow has caused the closure of US 64 and US 56. The wind is also causing very cold wind chills in the state. Snow will continue to fall in parts of New Mexico through Thursday night, but end by sunrise on Friday. Winds will also die down overnight, but it may still be slightly breezy. This is going to bring bitterly cold wind chills heading out the door Friday, feeling like the single digits for most of New Mexico, with some places seeing wind chills as low as -20°! A few slick spots on the roads will likely stick around through Friday morning before sunnier and drier weather will return by afternoon. High temperatures will still be cold though. Warmer and breezier weather returns on Saturday. Light snow will move through southern Colorado, but some of this snow will clip the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and Raton area. A backdoor cold front will be moving into northeastern New Mexico, which will eventually push through the whole state by Sunday morning. This will bring another cool down Sunday afternoon, with light snow over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and surrounding areas. 2-6" of snow may be possible. Quieter weather returns next week with a gradual warming trend and overall drier weather.
