NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – It's time to say goodbye to the season of twinkling lights and stockings on the mantle. KRQE asked viewers via social media when they start to put away their holiday decorations. The most popular time to start cleaning up after the holidays is at the start of the new year. Over 64% of viewers polled waited until the beginning of January to take down their decorations, with over 25% starting right after New Year's Day. A lot of viewers, however, tend to wait until Three Kings Day, falling on January 6th each year. Many viewers get started right away and start boxing up the lights the weekend after Christmas, with some taking on the task "Dec. 26. Done and put away." Some folks prefer not to wait until New Year's and take down decorations before the year ends. Poll: What is your favorite holiday movie? Only a handful of viewers wait until the end of January or even the beginning of February to start putting decorations away. In one viewer's attempt to keep the holiday spirit beyond New Year's, they're "trying to convince my husband to keep the outside lights up a bit longer." Not all decorations have to come down, of course. Some creative viewers like to recycle their decor for multiple holidays. One said their "small tabletop Christmas tree is now a Valentine Tree with hearts. " Other viewers never take down their decor at all, leaving them up for year-round cheer. "I keep the tree, house decorations up, lights in the house, lights outside the house with a blow-up Santa and reindeer lit up. The neighbors [and friends] know. They say it looks cool. I like it," one viewer noted.
