NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation said that customers should be aware of a scam involving scammer asking for payment of unpaid tolls. The department said that scammers have used text messages, emails, and phone calls to try to trick victims into sharing credit card numbers and other sensitive information to pay “outstanding balances.” MassDOT said customers should not click links given by these scammers, as the department never asks for payment via text and official links always contain the URL http://www.ezdrivema.com/. The FBI recommends individuals that receive the fraudulent messages do the following:   File a complaint with the IC3 and be sure to include:  the phone number from where the text originated. the website listed within the text. Check your account using the toll service’s legitimate website. Contact the toll service’s customer service phone number at (877) 627-7745. Delete any smishing texts received. If you clicked any link or provided your information, take efforts to secure your personal information and financial accounts. Dispute any unfamiliar charges. Questions about the scam messages can be directed to EXDriveMA. Categories: Massachusetts, News
