WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — A Warwick Animal Control officer was brought to the hospital after a bird that crashed through a window at Saint Kevin School panicked and latched onto her hand as she was removing it from the building.
Father Bob Marciano told 12 News the bird of prey wound up trapped inside an empty conference room and couldn't find its way back out. It may have been a hawk or falcon, but the exact species is unknown at this time.

Marciano said animal control quickly responded and captured the bird.
He described the officer as being "terrific, brave and calm," even when the bird dug its talons into her hand as she was walking out of the school.
Marciano is thankful that the incident wasn't worse.
"It could've flown through a classroom full of children," he said. "But it went through a room with no one in it."
Marciano said the bird had to be put down because it wouldn't let go of the officer's hand. She was then brought to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
No one else was injured, and Marciano said the rest of the school day was business as usual.
