NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A potent storm system will be rolling across the northern Gulf Thursday night through Friday which will bring us rainy and windy weather. Some of the rain will be locally heavy at times. While widespread flooding isn't expected we may see areas of standing water on roads due to runoff from the cold ground. Expect rain to spread across the area after midnight as low pressure moves across the area from the west. Heaviest activity will likely be around sunrise Friday as it moves east. This system will also bring quite a bit of wind to the area. Gusts into the 30s will be common, especially on the south shore, and we may even see gusts in the 40s along the coast. Gale warnings are in effect offshore and a wind advisory is in effect for areas south of I-12. Temperatures will be the warmest in the morning on the south shore as we see low to mid 60s just ahead of this low. They will fall into the 50s behind the low with winds switching around to the northwest. Saturday will be chilly as we start in the low to mid 30s and then struggle to warm into the upper 40s through the afternoon. Look for lows around freezing Sunday morning along and north of I-12, and mid to upper 30s south. Sunday we could see a few showers south of I-10 late in the day with highs in the upper 50s.
