KANSAS CITY, Kan.- Residents are preparing for a second round of snow, and hardware stores were busier than normal for a Thursday afternoon.  One of the most popular items people were buying was ice melt, as a few customers FOX4 talked to said the product was hard to find. Phil Gooch came into Strasser Hardware looking for that product. Historic home of famous Kansas City family lands on the market "It's... kind of like gold right now," he said jokingly in an interview with FOX4. FOX4 asked Gooch where he'd gone looking for ice melt. "I went to Home Depot and Menards both," he said. "They were completely out." Another customer FOX4 talked to was Kansas City, Missouri, resident Stacy Hamm. "Other places you know, Walmart's been sold out," she said in an interview with FOX4. "Family Dollar's been sold out, so this is my next choice." Strasser's Manager Gurjot Singh says customers are either buying shovels, or they're buying two different kinds of ice melt. Residents usually buy a white colored bag in Strasser's that contains both magnesium and sodium chloride. It's also a little cheaper. "This here will work until negative seven [degrees Fahrenheit]," Singh said of that ice melt. "It's a 50 pounder. It's like a step below the commercial one. This is the biggest one we have here because it's a commercial grade." Kansas City man, woman charged with felonies in connection with missing woman’s death Singh says the other ice melt, that commercial one he mentioned second, will work until it's -23 degrees outside. It's what schools and employers use to clear their parking lots of ice. Singh says their rock salt is sold out. "We've already gone through like eight pallets of that already," he continued. The Westport Westlake Ace Hardware said they were out of shovels Thursday, but they should have more in Friday morning. They do have plenty of ice melt though.
