INDIANAPOLIS — Police are continuing to investigate a double homicide after a man and woman were found shot to death inside a home near 21st and Emerson on Indy's east side.
Police are still investigating exactly what led to the double homicide, but whatever the motive, the case continues what has been a violent start to the new year.
On Wednesday afternoon, IMPD officers were called by people who live along East 20th Place to check the welfare of their neighbor.
Once on scene police found a man and woman shot to death inside a home and ruled the case a double homicide.

"It's devastating for this family, devastating for the community, the neighbors and this neighborhood. It's just sad," said IMPD officer Tommy Thompson.
Family members identified one of the victims as 60-year-old Randy Quinnette, a maintenance man and avid musician who lived in the home for nearly 40 years.
The second victim was his longtime on-again-off-again girlfriend, 57-year-old Deborah Russell.
According to IMPD, their deaths mark the fourth and fifth homicides in Indianapolis just over one week into the new year.
"We can't allow anyone to think they can commit crimes in Indianapolis and get away with it," said Reverend James Jackson. "I think as a city we can't get to the point we're hopeless."
Reverend Jackson believes the best way bring down the number fatal shootings, following five consecutive years of more than 200 total homicides in the city, is for the community to get more involved because police can't stop the senseless violence on their own.
"It has to start with the people on the street. We have to share information," said Jackson. "I still believe in the community policing model."
In this case, neighbors claim they first became suspicious of a problem on Tuesday night when they saw someone run from the victim's home.
The next morning they realized the victim's work truck remained parked outside and decided to call police who made the gruesome discovery.
Police did not have any detailed suspect information to release.
