CARMEL, Ind. — One of Carmel's oldest businesses is shutting its doors next month, putting an end to a 38-year legacy.
According to a Facebook post from store owner David Rennard, Carmel Music Center — located at 22 W. Main St. — will close by the end of February.
While the exact business itself has been in operation since August of 1987, Rennard said there has been a music store in that location since the 1960s. He noted he was "...proud to have been part of that legacy".
"With passion and enthusiastic endurance, Carmel Music Center thrived for almost 40 years, often though tough business environments, as well as the challenges of the COVID pandemic," Rennard said.
"I am pleased to say that I am going out on my terms and my schedule, not because I have to, but because it is time for me to enjoy some things I have sacrificed over the decades. I will start by cleaning my garage."
Rennard added that Carmel Music Center will continue selling products and fixtures until the store has been emptied. He also expressed his gratitude to customers, employees and music instructors that have allowed the business to thrive.
