HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Starting Monday, January 13, Oahu drivers should expect heavier traffic, especially during the morning hours, as the University of Hawaii (UH) spring semester kicks off across its six campuses. Both directions of the H1 Freeway and nearby surface streets are likely to see significant congestion. Hit-and-run crash involving moped rider under investigation Other UH campuses on Oahu, including Leeward Community College, Kapiolani Community College, Honolulu Community College, UH West Oahu, and Windward Community College, will also experience some increases in traffic as students return. While traffic typically increases during the first two weeks of the semester, this year’s congestion is expected to be lighter than in pre-pandemic years. This is due in part to more courses being offered online or in a hybrid format and many UH employees teleworking up to two days a week.
