Hitandrun crash involving moped rider under investigation

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A hit-and-run crash involving a moped rider has left a 29-year-old man in serious condition, and police are now seeking the public's help in identifying the motorist responsible.

The incident took place at around 6:46 p.m. on January 8, 2025, at the intersection of Isenberg Street and Date Street in Honolulu.
Authorities said a motorist, who has not yet been identified, was heading west on Date Street when they collided with the moped rider, who was traveling south on Isenberg Street.

Following the crash, the driver did not stop to assist the injured rider or exchange information, continuing west on Date Street.
Emergency Medical Services rushed the 29-year-old moped rider to a nearby hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries. Authorities also noted that the rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division is leading the investigation, and it remains unclear if speed, alcohol, or drugs played a role in the incident.
