It has been 10 and a half years since the so-called Slender Man stabbing.A judge has now ruled that the only defendant left in a mental health facility should be released back to the community. This is the fourth time Morgan Geyser has asked the courts for release from a mental health institution. To me, in order for someone to really be rehabilitated, they have to be in the community somehow, said the judge in the ruling on Geysers future.Geyser and Anissa Weier admitted to nearly stabbing their friend Payton Leutner to death in 2014.They said they did it to appease the fictional character Slender Man. The last time Geyser asked the court for release, two out of three doctors said no. This time, there was a change.Watch: Slender Man stabbing: Wisconsin woman granted release from psychiatric hospital Slender Man stabbing case: Wisconsin woman granted release from psychiatric hospitalThe bottom line, the common feature, is that there is unanimous support for Miss Geysers petition for conditional release, said Dr. Deborah Collins, a witness for the defense. The doctors said they changed their minds because of how Geyser has progressed in treatment. They no longer consider Geyser schizophrenic, and she is off all antipsychotic drugs. Her diagnosis has been changed to post-traumatic stress, anxiety, and depression from childhood abuse. Her current understanding is that she experienced fantasy as related to these different fictional characters. Within the context of her mental illness, fantasy essentially became blurred with reality, where she had a difficult time distinguishing what is fiction and what is real, said Dr. Brooke Lundbohm, a witness for the state.Geyser has also recently been diagnosed as autistic and identifies as a transgender male. None of which, doctors now say, make Geyser a risk. Her attorney, emotional in the ruling, said he has known Morgan since before he had his second child and teared up at the decision. She has a lot of talents. I think she is going to be a good person in the community, said Anthony Cotton.Payton Leutners mom has opposed Geysers release and was listening to the hearing Thursday. The state has 60 days to find a group home for Geyser, and she will have to be on GPS monitoring. Its about time to watch on your time.
