GREEN LAKE, Wis. (WFRV) - The Green Lake Area Animal Shelter is holding a special promotion for January dog adoptions, testing out a new process.
The process varies, as potential adopters will be able to choose between two different procedures:
Door County candlemakers raising money for Los Angeles fire victims through ‘Golden State’ candle
'Standard' process:
All dog adoptions come with a $250 fee
The application includes a questionnaire with eight questions
Potential adopters can express interest in specific dogs, all available pets online
Those who come visit can look at other dogs, as oftentimes, people end up choosing a different dog. Final approval comes after meeting with dogs and staff
Adoption is finalized after leaving with the new dog, though pets can be brought back if adoptions aren't successful
Post-adoption support is offered
Adoption includes one week of food and a clean, used collar, with dog leaves current on health care
'Upgraded' process:
Dog adoption fees are $100
Adoption application includes a five-question questionnaire
Potential adopters complete the application and questionnaire, the staff will choose the most compatible dog for the family based on answers and application
Each adoption comes with a foster-to-adopt trial, depending on the family and dog
Post-adoption support is available with free training available at 'A Dog's Tale,' suited to the new dog
Adoption includes two weeks of food, a new collar and leash as well as two months of flea/tick and heartworm prevention
Janine Rubeck, the shelter manager said their dog numbers have been high for the last couple of years and the new processes are intended to get people to choose their method of adoption.
