GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - Even though 2025 has started on a cooler note, it’s a stark contrast to the year prior, as 2024 is now the warmest year on record in Green Bay’s history. How did 2024 become the warmest on record? To begin, every month ran above average, as not a single month finished below average in terms of temperatures. That was the warmest February in history for Green Bay, breaking the previous record by 2 degrees. While that doesn’t sound impressive, the difference between the second and 15th warmest is also 2 degrees. Recall that Green Bay also observed its first day reaching 70 degrees on February 27. To summarize, it was the cooler months seeing well-above-average temperatures that drove 2024 up the charts to become the warmest on record. For those who enjoy the outdoors, like Scott's Sports owner Scott Carney, the early season warm weather was a welcomed sign of the season to come. "I appreciated the longer paddle season, it's hard to beat an October day with the full colors in pop and out there paddling in a t-shirt basically," said Carney. With the warmer-than-average temperatures and little to no snow during February, Carney noticed the activity on area waterways increasing due to the season's warmth. "The seasonality of paddle sports began early, seeing pretty much no snow on the ground starting late February when I received my first shipment of kayaks, so the early onslaught of demand and paddle ability led to a strong start to paddle sports," explained Carney. On the flip side, the winter season was a bit of a down year wither warmer temperatures and little to no snowpack at times. Carney said to do any sort of winter recreation, including snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, the place to be has been a drive north into the U.P. and this season is showing signs to be a repeat of 2024.
