BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Kern County firefighting resources are stepping up to help our neighbors to the south. On Wednesday, crews from Kern County left for Southern California to help fight multiple ongoing, deadly wildfires. Could Bakersfield see wind-driven urban fires like those in LA County now? Absolutely Fire crews are fighting the Eaton Fire near Pasadena and the fire in Pacific Palisades and Malibu. The death toll from the infernos stands at five, with more than a thousand structures destroyed by the Santa Ana wind-driven flames. Around 160 Kern County firefighters responded to help battle the most destructive fires in Los Angeles history. Fifty members of KCFD's incident management team are battling Eaton Fire with the help of 12 engines. Another engines have been assigned to the Palisades Fire. This team is using 4 dozers and one hand crew to help extinguish the flames. The team is made up of 70 firefighters. Two additional hand crews, with around 40 firefighters have answered the call to help put out the Hurst Fire. Bakersfield Fire Department have also traveled to Los Angeles County to provide aid. Five BFD engines, equipped with 17 firefighters have also been deployed to the Palisades and Eaton fires. 17's Rob Hagan spoke to officials about how they're pitching in.
