WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- Washington National Cathedral has been an integral part of life in D.C. and a center of faith for decades.
The cathedral describes itself as "a house of prayer for all people, conceived by our founders to serve as a great church for national purposes."
Construction on National Cathedral began in 1907. President Theodore Roosevelt was there to help lay the foundation stone. Building took place for 83 years, with President George H.W. Bush overseeing the laying of the final stone on top of the cathedral's towers in 1990.

The place of worship is the Cathedral of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, but welcomes people of all denominations, serving, in part, "as a sacred space where the country gathers during moments of national significance."
Washington National Cathedral is located in Northwest D.C. Its address is 3101 Wisconsin Ave. NW.
