Constellation Theatre opens 18th season with Nick Payne’s ‘Constellations’
Jan 09, 2025
Constellation Theatre Company debuts its 18th season with Constellations, a unique work that follows star-crossed lovers as they travel through a swirling multiverse of experiences. From barbecue to ballroom dancing and bar-hopping to beekeeping, the production explores the beautiful connections between destiny, adversity, and hope. Written by British playwright, Nick Payne, (writer of the A24 film We Live in Time featuring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh), Constellations will run from February 6 – March 9, 2025.
Nikki Mirza directs the story of star-crossed lovers, Marianne and Roland, as they navigate the complexities of their relationship through a kaleidoscope of possible realities. With each choice unfolding new layers of connections and intimacy, Constellations is a unique love story that examines the delicate interplay between fate and free will, exploring the power of choice in shaping realities within infinite possibilities.

Cast as Marianne and Roland, Dina Soltan and Tony Nam bring to life the emotional depth and intricacy of this multi-dimensional journey. Supporting the production are understudies Jenna K. Rossman as US Marianne and Christian Montgomery as US Roland. The creative team includes scenic designer Sarah Reed, costume designer Moyenda Kulemeka, lighting designer Alberto Segarra, sound designer Ian Vespermann, props designer Courtney Naughton, intimacy director Mallory Shear, dialect coach Katie McDonald, director of Artistic Sign Language Shanna Sorrels, and production stage manager Luís Ramon Córdovez.
Director Nikki Mirza comments, “This play is infused with forks in the road and second chances! What does it take for these two people to be in the right place at the right time? Is there truly a ‘right’ place and time? I love the breadth of possibilities this play explores. But the reality is we don’t get to live out every possible outcome. However, I believe we are each walking the paths that we are destined to walk. I hope people leave this play reflecting on their lived experiences – feeling affirmed in choices they’ve made that have brought them where they are…and feeling curious if there is something in their past to revisit.”
