Ramona’s Restaurant in Beaumont will close on Saturday, Jan. 11

Ramona’s Restaurant will end its long goodbye to Beaumont on Saturday, Jan. 11.
The family-owned restaurant announced it will be closing on that date after 52 years in a Facebook post on Dec. 16.
The post cites the rising cost of doing business and mandatory upgrades required by the city as reasons for closing, but also shares the pleasure of serving the community.
“Over the years, it’s become so much more than just a restaurant. Ramona’s has been a place where neighbors gather, families celebrate, and memories are made. Seeing your familiar faces and meeting new ones along the way has been the heart of our journey.”
Since then, Ramona’s has been counting down its last days on Facebook and posting photos of regular customers making their final visits.
The restaurant was founded in 1972 by World War II veteran Frank Mora Torres and his wife, Ramona V. Torres, whose black-and-white portrait hangs on a wall in the dining room and decorates the menu. The business is run by their descendants, who could not be reached for comment.
Signature menu items include the Nasty Burrito, made with chile relleno, chile verde with three sauces and two eggs.
Ramona’s Restaurant is at 249 W. Sixth St., Beaumont.
