LEDYARD, Conn. (WPRI) — Police have released body-worn camera footage that shows the arrest of a Pawtucket man accused of stealing a Providence police cruiser. Jared Remson, 27, allegedly took the cruiser while it was parked outside Rhode Island Hospital early Saturday morning. According to the police report, Remson had been escorted out of the hospital moments prior after he became "combative" and was throwing chairs in the emergency waiting room. BACKGROUND: Man accused of driving off with police cruiser outside RI Hospital Police tracked the cruiser's location using the officer's cell phone, which she had left inside the car. Connecticut State Police spotted the cruiser crossing the state line on I-95 South about an hour later, but when they attempted to pull Remson over, he sped off. Police said Remson reached speeds of 100 mph during the chase. Bodycam video from the Ledyard Police Department shows an officer deploying stop sticks before the cruiser slows to a stop. Remson can be heard in the footage talking about his head and how he left some of his things in the cruiser. RELATED: Suspect was ‘combative’ in RI Hospital ER before stealing cruiser, police say As Ledyard police walked Remson to their cruiser, he said, "I dyed my hair black so you wouldn't be able to recognize me so I could just do this and get to the big place and get Elon Musk to fix my head." He was arrested and now faces several charges, including first-degree larceny, reckless driving and engaging police in a pursuit. Remson was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, but his court appearance was postponed until Feb. 4. He will also face additional charges out of Rhode Island pending extradition.
