Storm Center Update; Areas of snow and blowing snow moving across KELOLAND
Jan 09, 2025
SIOUX FALLS SD (KELO) -- We are tracking snow and blowing snow this morning moving across KELOLAND early this morning. Here are the latest developments in weather you need to know.
First, no travel advisories have been posted for the northern Black Hills region and portions of I-90 from the Wyoming border to just east of Wall. Blowing snow has been the main problem with wind gusts of 40-55mph at times.
Winter weather advisories remain in effect for the Black Hills region shaded in blue.
On radar, you can see the concentrated area of snow moving east. Stay alert to changing weather conditions as this area of snow moves east.
Take a look at some of our LIVE Cams this morning, showing several examples of the changing conditions and snow.
You can see the strongest of the winds across western KELOLAND will expand to the east during the day. We think the top wind speeds in Sioux Falls will be 20-30 mph this afternoon.
The band of snow (and some mixed precipitation) will continue to move from west to east as shown on Futurecast below. Temperatures will be in the 30s through much of the day. Expect a few lingering patches of flurries tomorrow along with cooler highs in the 20s in much of KELOLAND.
This system will not produce heavy snow accumulations, but expect around 1 inch or less in many locations. Stay tuned.
Here are the details of the forecast.
