NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A convention for comic book fans and movie lovers, exotic animal racing featuring camels, zebras, and ostriches, and a gala honoring the top contributors to the culture of New Orleans are all on tap for this weekend. Here are Where Y’at’s picks! First, head to the Convention Center for Fan Expo: the go-to event for all sci-fi, horror, and gaming fans. The expo will feature familiar faces from the “Back to the Future” movies like Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, and others; all available for meetups & photos! Next, throughout January, enjoy the special concert series held at The George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center. The first performance tomorrow night will feature Mark Braud’s New Orleans Jazz Giants. All proceeds directly support the efforts of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation. Visit the Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots on Saturday for a special family day featuring exotic animal races. The event starts at 12:45 p.m. and features unique races with ostriches, zebras and camels. General admission starts at $10, while children 12 and under receive free admission. Finally, on Saturday night, make your way to Mardi Gras World for the 3rd annual New Orleans Tourism and Cultural Fund Honors Gala. The event will celebrate the dedication of New Orleanians’ contributions. Honorees include Chef Stephen Stryjewski, while Big Chief Monk Boudreaux will receive a Lifetime Achievement award.
