Suspect in Scott County deputy’s murder booked in Lexington

Lexington, Ky. (ABC 36 News Now) — The suspect charged with the murder of Scott County Deputy Caleb Conley is now in custody at the Fayette County Detention Center.
According to the jail website, 47-year-old Steven Sheangshang was transferred from the Bourbon County Detention Center and booked in Fayette County on Tuesday, January 7.
Sheangshang is accused of fatally shooting Deputy Conley during a traffic stop on I-75 in Georgetown in May 2023. His murder trial is set to begin in February in Shelby County, with a status hearing scheduled for January 17 in Scott County.
Sheangshang is also facing charges in Lexington for an alleged crime spree after the shooting. Investigators say he allegedly broke into a home and stole a vehicle in Georgetown, drove to Lexington, allegedly shot a man, and stole his car before being arrested at a home on Charles Avenue.
