Graham and Tuberville propose Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act
Jan 09, 2025
(WCIV) — Senator Lindsey Graham in partnership with Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama, announced Wednesday a new act aimed at “preserving Title IX protections for female athletes”.
According to Graham, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025 would preserve Title IX protections for female athletes and allow safe and fair competition in women’s sports in the U.S.
“We have to stand up to the radical Left now before it’s too late,” said Senator Graham in a prepared statement. “This legislation is much-needed to protect the integrity and safety of women’s sports. I appreciate Senator Tuberville’s leadership and was glad to join my colleagues in this effort.”
Some of the focuses of the act include ensuring that Title IX provisions treat gender as “recognized based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth”, and it will ban recipients of federal funding from operating, sponsoring, or facilitating athletic programs that allow a male to participate in a women’s sporting event.
“President Trump ran on the issue of saving women’s sports and won in a landslide. 70% of Americans agree—men don’t belong in women’s sports or locker rooms. I have said many times that I think Title IX is one of the best things to come out of Washington. But in the last few years, it has been destroyed. While I’m glad that the Biden administration ultimately rescinded the proposed rule, Congress has to ensure this never happens again,” said Senator Tuberville in a prepared statement.
