BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- A comedy show featuring actors Omar Gooding and Miguel Núñez Jr. will be in Baton Rouge this weekend to raise money for an organization. Núñez, known for his role as Jamal Jefferies in the movie "Juwanna Mann," is hosting Saturday’s comedy show. Gooding, known for the movie “Baby Boy” and TV show "Smart Guy," is headlining this event in partnership with Apostle Mardia Scott. Scott's organization, His Love Is Amazing, is hosting a comedy show to raise money to fund prison prevention efforts for kids. The group partners with the New Orleans Pelicans to allow East Baton Rouge students to attend a basketball game and participate in other activities to decrease the incarceration rate. The group encourages people to buy a shirt for themselves and another for a child so they may go to the game. Last year, the group helped more than 7,000 kids. Nearly 150 students from each East Baton Rouge school will attend a Pelicans game between January and April this year. Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge event raises money for creative programs In October of 2023, former Gov. John Bel Edwards signed a proclamation making January 1 “His Amazing Love Day” in Louisiana. Since then, 21 mayors, including former East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, have adopted this day in their cities too. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 for the comedy show at the 70805 Conversion Center on Choctaw Drive in Baton Rouge. The show is slated to start at 7 p.m. Entry is free with the purchase of a $35 T-shirt. You can RSVP for the comedy show and purchase your T-shirt online.
