Weather forecast: Lingering flakes with strong winds around Rochester
Jan 09, 2025
ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) - Lingering snow showers are around this morning and will persist through around lunchtime as the winds remain west-northwest. It's another cold day with highs in the lower to middle 20s. Strong winds will make for a breezy afternoon as well with wind chills near zero at times.
We have a westerly flow this afternoon, that should hurt any lake snow trying to develop. This prevents from significant snowfall, but not all snowfall. We don't really see a cutoff of snow until winds turn more southwesterly by Thursday night into Friday. This should end the lake effect streak and could even bring out a bit of sunshine by Friday. Highs get into the middle 20s.
We've got system snow coming in Friday night into Saturday morning as we are sandwiched between two systems (one to the north and one to the south). The southerly one is a wintry mess across the south while the northerly one will bring us a few inches of fresh snow Saturday. Any lingering lake effect Sunday should be east of the lakes. Get ready for another blast of cold and lake effect for the middle of next week.
