GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A Greensboro police officer will be laid to rest today, just over two weeks after he was killed in the line of duty.
Officer Michael Horan's funeral will be held at Westover Church in Greensboro, with the service starting at 1 p.m. It is open to the public on a first-come-first-serve basis. The service will be live-streamed for those who cannot attend in person but still wish to honor Horan's memory.
High Point officers will block the road for the Horan procession route, and the Burlington Police Department will also be among Triad agencies assisting Greensboro police during the service.

Tarell Isaac McMillian (Greensboro Police Department)
Horan was shot and killed on Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, when he responded to the Food Lion on Lawndale Drive about reports of an armed person inside. The man, Tarell Isaac McMillian, who was working as an InstaCart shopper at the time, allegedly shot Horan, who had not drawn his weapon, according to Greensboro police at the time.
McMillian was taken into custody at the Duplin/Sampson County line after a chase through several counties. He was charged with first-degree murder and multiple traffic charges.
Agencies and nonprofits around the Piedmont Triad and beyond have rallied around GPD and Horan's family. A Greensboro Police Officer designed a shirt that citizens can purchase, with the proceeds going to the Horan family. A memorial ride is being planned for February.
