Jan 08, 2025
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque Fire Rescue said they responded to 324 significant working structure fires last year which is 18 fewer than in 2023. Fires that require crews to link up to a water supply are considered a "significant event alert."

The department said fire prevention efforts, code enforcement, improved building materials, and more efficient HVAC units all played a part in the decline. While those fires are down, AFR said outside fire calls increased from 6,500 in 2023 to more than 10,000 in 2024.
AFR expects to release its total call volume on Thursday.
