NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – New Mexico got the request for assistance from California Tuesday morning and crews are getting ready to go help fight raging wildfires. California is making a big request of other states, looking for 40 firefighting crews from across the country to join the effort.   The New Mexico Forestry Division is working with the Department of Homeland Security to see what the state can send. That means reaching out to cities, counties, and other firefighting agencies to see who is available to deploy to the devastating fires in California   "These would be wildland crews which means they will be able to respond to wildland fire conditions. We don't exactly know where everybody will be deployed that's up to the state of California and the city of Los Angeles. It will probably be fulfilling needs on the ground at the moment," said George Ducker, communication coordinator NM forestry division.  The Forestry Division said California requested type one and type three fire trucks, which usually have crews of two to five people. They are still figuring out how many crews they can send, while still keeping enough personnel in New Mexico since the fire danger is high here as well. Albuquerque Fire Rescue also said it would send a brush truck and four firefighters in the morning.  The Forestry Division plans to have crews heading out as soon as Thursday morning and be on the ground helping within 24 to 48 hours. Crews will be deployed for 14 days.
