WESTPORT, Mass. (WPRI) — A locally-owned clothing and gift shop in Westport is changing hands after nearly 48 years in business.
Country Woolens announced Monday in a social media post that owner Ann Squire is passing the torch to the next generation, with ownership of the store being transferred to her son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Liz Squire.
"The transition should be seamless after working together for the past 11 years," Country Woolens wrote. "We are thrilled to embark on our 48th year of business and want to assure our amazing customer base that we will still be here for you — same as always."
Ann Squire and her husband first opened Country Woolens back in 1977 as a sweater and yarn shop. It has since blossomed into an expansive store that sells outerwear, apparel, gifts and home decor.
"Ann's tireless dedication and hard work built the business from the ground up," Country Woolens continued. "Countless stories and memories over the years still share our core. We are so grateful for her shared knowledge, hard work and continued support going forward."
