NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — In the aftermath of the New Year's Day terrorist attack, the New Orleans community continues to come together. A local artist is hoping to inspire hope with his new artwork.
Artist Joshua Wingerter is the instrument at Preservation Hall just around the corner from Bourbon Street.
"I'm really just an instrument of what they wanted to show: support and love," Wingerter said.
His new artwork, which reads "Keep Your Head Up," is playing a tune of positivity in a time when we all need this reminder.
"I think it is a simple message, but it resonates," he said.
It resonates through the dark streets of New Orleans and now sheds light.

"You know I don't think I'm bringing positivity, I'm saying 'hey there are still good things here,'" Wingerter said.
Tough times are no stranger to Wingerter, who during the pandemic painted the boarded businesses.
"I like to reiterate that it is a positive place with a lot of positive people, with a lot of positive things. This is my contribution to help by bringing attention to whatever's going on in the city," he said.
Wingerter designed the art piece with sheets of plywood and a mixture of paints and acrylics.
"I cut the image out afterwards to make it feel like it is almost growing on the building," Wingerter said.

After the tragedy, this is his labor of love.
"You know that's what people in New Orleans do, that's how we love each other," he said.
He would love to do more inspirational art pieces for other businesses in the French Quarter during this tough time.
The art is fitting because "Keep Your Head Up" is also a song that the Preservation Hall Band plays regularly.
