GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) -- A Page High School teacher who was a pillar in the community has passed away. From making learning fun for students to lending a hand to any teachers who need it, Page High School Principal Erik Naglee says Summer Hunter, 47, was a jack of all trades. "Her best trait was just her humbleness ... She always about everybody else. Even in her times of struggle ... she was always trying to help everybody else," Naglee said. Naglee says Hunter leaves an irreplaceable hole in the community, and her impact lives on. She's best known for her leadership in the school's mentoring program Team Voyage. It's a group that helps young African American men build leadership skills. "Depending on the year, that's anywhere from 25 to 75 young African American males. If you compound that with almost 10 years of Team Voyage, you can see the reach that she had," Naglee said. It's a lasting reach that her former student MaChara Street says can't be replicated. "She was like a mother figure to me. Besides her and Coach Mills, nobody else put as much time and energy into me. She was just everything. Anything you needed in that moment, she was that," Street said. Hunter ran Team Voyage with Russell Mills, a former high school football coach, who passed away last February. With both community servants leaving a void within PHS, Street says both are sorely missed. "One day in class, she read my fortune, and she told me everything she saw from my life. And I want it now more than ever. I feel like everyone should feel like that. Everything she wanted us to have. Everything people said we couldn't do, we could do it. If you didn't know her you missed out," Street said. Naglee says a celebration of life service will take place at PHS on Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. All current and past students of Hunter's are encouraged to attend. A GoFundMe has been set up.
