ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) -- The Allen County Sheriff's Department is investigating a single-vehicle crash near Homestead High School that left a driver in critical condition Wednesday night. Police and EMS were spotted along Aboite Center Road between Eggeman and Homestead roads. A WANE 15 crew saw officers investigating a small patch of woods north along Aboite Center Road where a vehicle could be seen. According to the Allen County Sheriff's Department, an SUV heading west on Aboite Center Road left the roadway for an unknown reason and hit a tree. Authorities transported the driver to a local hospital in critical condition. The crash shut down a stretch of Aboite Center Road between Hamilton and Homestead roads in both directions, which Google Maps shows is still shut down as of 10:45 p.m.
