SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) — The Sumter county deputies have arrested a man accused of stealing more than $15 thousand dollars worth of copper wire. Deputies went inside, walking through the building to investigate further and realized copper wire had been cut from machines inside, other equipment was also stolen from the facility.
A short time later deputies took a call about a wanted person driving a box truck near Barkley Road. Once authorities arrived on the scene they were able to confirm 36 year old Scott Daniel Taylor was the driver officials say was wanted on several outstanding General Sessions bench warrants. Deputies attempted to pull Taylor over at which point they say he fled into a wooded area.
Deputies say they managed to locate the box truck near an abandoned road, but were not able to catch Taylor at that time. Investigators did however, locate a large about copper wire inside of the box truck which was later determined to match the wire taken from the facility, as well as other items stolen a month prior. Authorities say they also discovered numerous items reported stolen from a storage unit in the City of Sumter inside of the truck as well.
