More than 3,000 Christmas trees recycled for a cause

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — More than 3,000 Christmas trees have been kept from landfills and helped fundraise for youth development programs in Colorado Springs.
According to TreeCycle, thousands of area households have TreeCycled their Christmas trees and donated more than $16,000 to youth programs. TreeCycle offers a way for people to recycle their natural Christmas trees to be turned into mulch and avoid going to a landfill.
TreeCycle continues throughout the month of January at Rocky Top Resources (1755 E. Las Vegas Street) during normal business hours, though the location is closed on Sundays. There is a $5 suggested minimum donation for dropped-off trees. All decorations, stands, and spikes must be removed from trees before drop-off.
TreeCycle also accepts online donations. You can learn more by clicking here.
TreeCycle is Organized by El Paso County, with the assistance of the City of Colorado Springs, Colorado Springs Utilities, and Colorado Springs Youth Sports. The donated funds benefit El Pomar Youth Sports Park, Cheyenne Mountain High School Men’s Lacrosse, Harrison High School Football, Peyton High School, Pride Soccer, and Boy Scout Troops 194 and 268. All beneficiaries volunteer with the program.
