WASHINGTON (DC News Now) - Volunteers and natives from around the DMV are stepping up to help as massive, deadly wildfires rage in Southern California. Officials in California are describing the Pacific Palisades Fire as Los Angeles' most destructive wildfire of all time, and as the worst-case scenario: dry conditions with winds whipping through the region at more than 100 miles per hour, and emergency resources stretched to the brink. Between the Pacific Palisades Fire, the Eaton Fire and the Hurst Fire, two people have died while thousands of structures have been burned, including homes and businesses. Tens of thousands of people have been ordered to evacuate. Pacific Palisades fire now most destructive in Los Angeles history as out-of-control wildfires continue to burn Volunteers from Washington, D.C.-based World Central Kitchen, headed by Chef Jose Andres, moved into the area Tuesday night.  Saying in part in a post on X, Andres wrote, "world central kitchen already activated at #PacificPalisadesFire, #ChefsForCalifornia please be safe." World Central Kitchen’s Relief Team is in Southern California to support first responders and families impacted by wildfires in the Los Angeles area. Our teams have mobilized across the region to provide immediate relief in the form of sandwiches and water as we identify all areas of need. Several WCK Chef Corps members are on standby, ready to provide comforting meals. World Central Kitchen People hailing from closer to home are concerned for loved ones in the area. Liliana Schlossberg-Cohen is from the Baltimore area, but now lives in Irvine, Calif., south of the fires. "I've been trying to tell my friends and family [in the area], our doors are open. Whatever you need, come and lean on us. Things are going and moving quickly," said Schlossberg-Cohen. Law enforcement officials in the Los Angeles area say emergency resources are stretched extremely thin there, and they're urging people to help each other out. "It's critical that at these times we be patient, that we come together, that we focus on saving lives and to be able to do the very best job we can still, look back on this, we know that we did what we could for others," said Chief Jim McDonnell of the Los Angeles Police Department.
