With fresh snow on the ground and consistent winds, we are locked into this cold setup for the rest of the week. Temperatures tumbled into the teens and 20s last night, and we're barely warming back up to the upper 20s and lower 30s this afternoon. While it's not as blustery as yesterday, wind gusts are still approaching 30-35 mph at times, which is more than enough wind to create biting wind chills. Feels-like readings will stay in the teens and 20s this afternoon before we see some of the coldest air of the season tonight. As air temperatures fall into the teens and wind speeds pick up, more wind chills will tumble to around zero in the lower elevations and below zero across the mountains. Bundle up and stay as warm as you can! These same blustery and frigid conditions will continue through Thursday, but the good news is that almost the entire area will stay free of any additional snowfall. The one exception will be across the mountains of western MD and WV, where Winter Weather Advisories are in place through noon on Thursday. An additional 3-6" of snow is expected across parts of Garrett, Allegany, and Mineral Counties, mainly the higher terrain. The wind blowing this around will make travel difficult at times. Heading into Friday, we'll catch a brief lull in the wind as temperatures try to bounce back above freezing. Cloud cover will increase throughout the day as a storm system approaches the south. This storm is our next chance for snow with the colder air lingering around, but it's just making its way into the Southwest US, so it has a long way to go, and this forecast is still fluid. That being said, the picture is starting to clarify what's most likely with this system. This will not be a repeat of Monday, and this is not likely to be another significant snowstorm for the DMV. At worst, we expect a glancing blow from this storm to produce light, scattered snow from late Friday night into Saturday morning. This scenario would drop a few additional inches of snow for parts of the region while others barely see anything. We'll continue to watch this closely. Conditions will rapidly clear out Saturday afternoon regardless, and we'll be back to sunny skies for the rest of the weekend. Temperatures will push the mid-30s into early next week before another surge of colder air arrives heading into next Tuesday and Wednesday. Winds will likely pick back up on these days, and another round of mountain snow could take shape while the rest of us stay dry. Stay warm out there, and have a great rest of your Wednesday! 7-Day Forecast: Today: Partly cloudy, breezy, and cold with mountain snow.
