SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Daniel Lurie, nonprofit founder and heir to the Levi’s Strauss fortune, was sworn in as San Francisco’s 46th mayor on Wednesday. KRON4 News is bringing special coverage of the inauguration on air and online beginning at 11 a.m. The 47-year-old San Francisco native is the city’s first mayor since 1911 to come into the position without ever holding public office before. Through the process of a ranked choice voting system, Lurie defeated incumbent Mayor London Breed and other contenders in last November’s election. Lurie said he knocked on more than 140,000 doors in the city and did 250 meet and greets during his campaign, which raised $16 million. As mayor-elect, he did eight ride-alongs with police officers and made 10 visits to each police station in the city. Last week, Lurie announced a new chief of public safety position that will focus on “neighborhood safety, street behavior, emergency preparedness and response,” according to a spokesperson. After being sworn in at City Hall, Lurie is expected to attend an evening celebration at a banquet hall in Chinatown.
