Lidia Fire threatens structures near Soledad in Acton
Jan 08, 2025
The L.A. County Fire Department ordered a full brush-fire response for an incident Wednesday afternoon that was reported to be threatening structures in Acton.
The “Lidia Fire” is being reported at approximately 50 acres near the 5700 block of Soledad Canyon Road in Acton, according to Luis Garcia of the Fire Department’s media information line. Information on the cause was not immediately available.
As of 2:49 p.m., Cali Lake RV Resort was the only community under mandatory evacuation, according to CHP officials.
Stewart Silver, owner of the park, said as of 3 p.m. LASD officials were telling everyone to get a bag to be ready to go, but that winds had shifted in the last 15 minutes, and that the evacuation order was no longer mandatory.
He said many of the residents have few options, which is a reason why the park’s location was a concern for the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors last year.
Palmdale Sheriff’s Station officials confirmed that deputies had just arrived on the scene as of about 2:30 p.m. as Fire Department officials were still evaluating the potential for evacuation orders at that time. California Highway Patrol officials also were in the area to assist with road closures and potential evacuation orders, according to Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez of the Newhall Area Station.
A SigAlert issued by CHP closed Soledad Canyon Road in both directions between Agua Dulce Canyon and Crown Valley roads due to the response from the Fire Department. There was 0% containment as of 2:11 p.m.
Garcia said he did not have a size update on the incident, but radio dispatch traffic indicated numerous aerial resources were being mobilized from various regional incidents as of 1:30 p.m., indicating the incident might have grown in size since.
Metrolink officials confirmed as of 1:45 p.m. that its tracks between Vincent Grade Station in Acton and Vista Canyon Station in Canyon Country are closed for the duration of the response to the fire.
A Metrolink official referred those looking for real-time updates on service to its X account, @metrolinkAV.
The online outage map for Southern California Edison, which is where the utility has referred all requests for information for the duration of the wind storm, was offline as of 2:45 p.m. due to a service outage.
This is a breaking news report, and more information will be published as it becomes available.
