City of Appleton continues trend of yearly decreases in crime since 2020, down 33% in 2024

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) - The City of Appleton is continuing its yearly trend of crime decreases, with fewer calls every year since 2020.
In 2024, the number of calls decreased significantly, dropping to 325 from 2023's total of 490, a roughly 33.7% decrease. The data is for assault, burglary, drugs and other various incidents.

Public Information Officer and Lieutenant Meghan Cash said the Appleton Police Department focuses on engaging with the community about safety and crime prevention work.
"When we look at those crime trends, we're looking at the ability to say 'how do we keep our community engaged in its safety, while partnering that with our staff as well,'" Lt. Cash said.
Lt. Cash added that the department provides transparent resources such as crime maps, making them accessible so people can make decisions.
"It's really important for us as law enforcement professionals to take it in and figure out what we can do to continue to improve," Lt. Cash said. "We are going to continue to work on our resources."
The department is focusing on feedback from the community in 2025, listening to the issues that people bring up regarding things like traffic safety especially.

"What is our community saying is their biggest issue," Lt. Cash said. "We hear a lot about traffic and neighborhood issues."
